The Seekers Ethos
The founding myth and Tenets of the Seekers Commonwealth.
Faction summary
The Seekers are both religious, maltheist and expansionist - they see it as their sacred duty to spit in the eye of the maker and all of this vast blackness by making sure as many Seekers survive as possible, and through leaving behind things, like glorious churches. We can’t take it with after all, say the Seekers in their holy text. Seekers are meticulous in their record keeping, every ship, station, port and settlement maintains a log of everyone who has been there. Whilst not particularly warlike, the Seekers aim to make their mark on the great blackness and have expanded significantly from their beginnings aboard the First Station. It was there, on Revelation Station as it is now known, an abandoned corporate mining asteroid mine, where the first teachings were scribed, as the miners, abandoned by the corporates with no food, air recyclers or transport, were left to die - the first Seekers. 100 years after the massacre carried out by the Zeyland-Butani Corporation, though they deny it, the Seekers Commonwealth spans multiple colonial sectors.
The Seekers Ethos
The Seekers were born of the dark. From that dark came a light, challenging humanity to escape its ultimate fate and chase entropy to the end of the stars.
The Seekers started as a group of miners abandoned on a space station with no food, air or light. From the death of many emerged a group of survivors determined to never let anyone else know this dreadful fate. Thus the First Tenet: Survival Above All. Some may die but the whole must survive, no matter what.
This tiny group quickly grew into a movement, spreading amongst established systems, first covertly then out in the open. Seekers would do the jobs nobody else would do, scrap and save until they owned the shop, the street, the city, the planet. Many took risks; many failed, but some succeeded. Thus came the Second Tenet: Success Through Diversity. The whole may break into pieces, but each piece may then thrive on its own.
The Zeyland-Butani Corporation that had abandoned their forefathers was fought and hunted. Their offices burned down; their ships mysteriously disappeared, until none remained. Bereft of a target, some within the Seekers wished to expand the grievance to the corrupt system that had birthed this Corporation, create a Tenet of Purity and cleanse the galaxy of all but the purest Seeker light; only the intervention of Sirx Preva and the Witnesses prevented a future of war. With sanity regained rose the Tenet of Ascendancy, or Tenet of Light: Humanity Must Thrive. Survival is not enough. The Seekers are not enough. Our duty is to challenge all of humanity to realise their potential.
